Walter Simson

I am a Senior AI Engineer at NVIDIA working on advanced ultrasound perception. I received my PhD in Deep Learning for Medical Imaging under the supervision of Prof. Nassir Navab at TUM, and most recently worked on advanced ultrasound reconstruction with Prof. Jeremy Dahl at Stanford University.

My wife, Magda Paschali is at Stanford as a PostDoc in Medical AI.

Research

My research focuses on ultrasound perception with an emphasis on accelerated adaptive imaging using deep learning methods. I've extensively explored sound speed as a potential biomarker and pioneered differentiable beamforming techniques for ultrasound autofocusing, publishing seminal papers in this area. My work encompasses accelerated adaptive image reconstruction and sound speed estimation in medical ultrasound, driven by broader interests in perception, optimization, and medical image processing. Representative papers are highlighted
